Whether you’re a local or visiting, here are the best budget-friendly ways to make memories with your kids in Redlands, California.
1. Prospect Park
1352 Prospect Dr, Redlands, CA 92373
Prospect Park is one of Redlands most historic hidden gem. It features:
Stunning mountain views of Redlands
Picnic tables and shaded spots
outdoor amphitheater that is home to the Redlands Summer Theater Festival
Walk among beautiful orange groves
bamboo forest
bathrooms available
does not have a playground
On the same grounds is the Famous Kimberly Crest Mansion- definitely worth taking the time to explore the gardens and fish pond. (ticket reservations needed for home tour)
It’s perfect for family picnics, exploring nature, or just a relaxed afternoon outdoors.
2.A.K. Smiley Public Library
125 W. Vine St. Redlands 92373
The A.K. Smiley Public Library was founded in 1894 and has a room dedicated just for kids! The young readers' room offers:
Free story times
Children’s reading areas
Seasonal activities and crafts
Beautiful enclosed outdoor space with benches for reading outside and playing
Be on the lookout for the frequent free community events, like Family Day
It’s a great indoor option on hot or rainy days.
3.Lincoln Memorial Shrine
125 W. Vine St. Redlands 92373
Just a few steps away from the library is the Lincoln Memorial Shrine, a museum and research facility dedicated to Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War.
See the newest collection “…That All Men Are Created Equal: Slavery in America”
Explore a variety of Civil War artifacts, including letters, photographs, and personal items that belonged to Lincoln.
A great place to take kids on Presidents' Day, or when learning about the Civil War.
Open daily from 1-5pm (except closed on Mondays)
4.Downtown Morning Market
From Spring to Fall (Winter hiatus) you can find organic, local produce and more trats at this farmers Market.
When: Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Where: Municipal parking lot off Redlands Boulevard, between Fifth and Sixth streets
Near: Historic Downtown area of East State Street

Sylvan Park is a huge park and local favorite with:
Large playground structures

It’s great for active kids who love to climb, swing, and explore. Also a great spot for birthday parties, you can rent a cabana with picnic tables.
7.Ford Park
This 27 acre park has it all:
Dog park
Lighted tennis courts
playground structure

Great options include:
Redlands Hills Trail System

These are perfect for stroller walks, nature scavenger hunts, or sunset strolls.
9.Downtown & Local Highlights
Historic Downtown Redlands & Orange Street Alley – Wander historic downtown, where you can see the iconic umbrella alley, enjoy outdoor art, and browse one-of-a-kind shops.
There is a family visitor center that offers a private room to breastfeed, change diapers, children's restroom, or just a room for little ones to rest. They also offer local guides and maps.
My favorite kid friendly small businesses in Downtown Redlands:
Frugal Frigate book store
Kissui-kids clothing and toys
Board Game Paradise
Jaks Toy shop
Ice Cream at A La Minute or Lappert's
Picnic area at Ed Hale's Park
Coffee at Molino's
Lunch at The Eating Room or Gourmet Pizza Shoppe
